It is okay to be an 80%er!

Are you a 100% er? What’s that? Do you often say to yourself things like

“ I like to do everything 100%”

“When that it is 100% it will be done”

“When it is perfect, I can finish. “

Perfection is an illusion – and we all know that the pursuit of perfection leads to procrastination – can you relate?

This is NOT the 80/20 rule.

EXAMPLES

  • 80 % of the time you wear 20% of your wardrobe.

  • 80% of the work done on a committee is done by 20% of the members.

  • 80% of the emails that come into your inbox are reference or rubbish only 20% are actionable. Often true.

But the 80/80 rule is a different approach to getting things done. I choose to work with this rule every day.

What does it mean? I am okay with doing 80 percent of the things 80 percent of the time and so can you!

When you focus on doing 100% of the things 100% of the time it causes frustration and disappointment. It Is not possible to do things a 100%, 100% of the time. We are human and life can often get in the way of our best intentions.

So when my clients tell me they did not do all of their morning routine every morning that week. I say great, no one expects you to EXCEPT YOU!

Focus on doing most of the things, most of the timeinstead of all of the things all of the time.

If you have a long list of things you would like to do in the mornings – make sure you do at least 80 percent of those not all of them. Now you MAY get to do them all. That is a bonus but not the goal!

I can guarantee you that you will be more productive and effective and most importantly more content if you implement the 80/80 rule right away.

All of my clients who have taken on the 80/80 rule are letting go of perfection and feeling much more accomplished and happier. Give it a go… Let’s see if 80% of you will do it! 😊
