Are you the driver or the passenger of your life

Are you the driver or the passenger of your life

If you don’t know where you are going how will you know when you get there?

This is me in the DRIVER's SEAT of my awesome Mini Clubman JCW called Mabel. Great manifesting story... ask me how.

We have been living through a very unusual time over the last 3 years and we all still feel a little vulnerable We had been living with a lot of uncertainty and now we are getting back to a bit more of what we remember as normal.

There may have had goals we had set that have been postponed, delayed or even deleted! However, we all need to keep focusing on the future and putting our goals back in place. We are coming out of the worst of Covid, Remember, EVERY STORM RUNS OUT OF RAIN AND THE SUN WILL SHINE AGAIN – we are finally getting back to having things to look forward to.

So, if we want to know where we are going, we are going to need a road map.

Think of it like this, you need a GPS to get you where you want to go. Without giving your GPS a destination you aren’t going anywhere right?

Today we will look at the GPS differently. My wonderful client and friend from @howardco Warren Howard shared this with me and it really resonated. So now I get to share it with you.

GPS stands for

G = GOAL – We need to start with where we want to end up. Focus on what you want.

P = PLAN – Without a plan, it will always remain just a goal or a dream.

The ACTION PLAN will get you there.

S = START - take the first step and keep going. Because we can have a goal and even a plan but unless we DO IT we will be back here next year writing down the same goal. You know what I mean, don’t you? Been there before?

So let's get into the driver's seat!

Ever taught someone to drive? No fun being a passenger, is it? We have no control.

So when you find you are sliding back into the passenger seat, Take note and move back into the driver's seat. Remember you are in charge.

Being in the driver's seat means you are making choices according to what is truly important to YOU!

If you allow others to influence your decisions and choices, and tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing then you are not in the driver’s seat! Don’t let other people should all over you!!! Courtesy of Tony Robbins

How do we know what is truly important to you? We FOCUS on what our values and beliefs are.

There is a distinct difference between what a value is and what a belief is. I like to share this difference with my clients. In fact, often our limiting beliefs can be the things holding us back.

VALUES: Values come from the inside out - they are intrinsically within us, and we feel it in our gut. Do you know that feeling? When you are asked to do something that does not fit in with your values. It feels uncomfortable right?

BELIEFS: Beliefs come from the outside in – we LEARN beliefs from our parents, upbringing, the media, and experiences we have.

So understanding and acknowledging your values and beliefs allows you to make choices. Choosing to – say YES OR NO to something depending on if it fits in with you and what you choose for yourself.

Interestingly enough, even though we call them CORE values these are not always set in stone.

In fact, at different times in your life, you may find they do change. I can give you an example of that from my own experience.

2 and half years ago, health was not even in my top 10. I never even considered it.

Until I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2020 – right as Covid started.

Fortunately, I have been in remission for the last 2 years and I am truly grateful for that – but guess what – Health is now in my top 4!

Get it? So my top 4 values are FAMILY, INDEPENDENCE FUN & HEALTH. So once you become aware of your top values (true rules of who you are) and WHY they are important to you, you will start to make decisions on what you will and won’t do according to whether they fit in with your values.

Eg: Independence is a big priority for me – I love the flexibility of having my own business and working autonomously and having the freedom to choose when I want to take time off or not. So if someone said to me " Hey Sue I will offer you double what you are earning right now. But you will have to work 5 days a week full time" I would have to say no thank you. Because as much as I would love to earn double my income, it is not as important to me as the need for independence. Make sense?
